A royal visit: Princess Anne to come to Wokingham next month

THE RED carpet will soon be rolled out in Wokingham’s town centre – The Princess Royal is coming to visit.

Princess Anne is to cut the ribbon to declare open the refurbished premises of Citizens Advice Wokingham.

Her visit coincides with the 80th anniversary celebrations for the service, which aims to offer consumer advice on a range of issues. And the royal visit will be a big boost to the organisation, which is staffed mainly by volunteers.

It launched in Wokingham in the Queen’s silver jubilee year, 1977.

In a statement, the Wokingham CEO Jake Morrison noted: “We are honoured to be receiving a visit from Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, during the Citizens Advice services 80th anniversary.

“All of our staff, volunteers and trustees have played a part in the 80 years of our service, some with over 25 years’ worth of contributions.”

He added: “We are all really proud of Citizens Advice and love doing what we do. We make a difference for people every single day, whether that be through our drop-in sessions, driving change on things that affect our communities or by providing opportunities for people to grow and learn new things through volunteering.

“We will, of course, share more news when we can.”

And it won’t be the only visitors who will be attending.

Mr Morrison said: “The visit will also include people who have been part of our journey locally since 1977 along with three of our local Members of Parliament, including Wokingham MP John Redwood and former Prime Minister, Theresa May.”
