WORK by volunteers from a Wokingham retirement home to make the Winter Carnival a success has been recognised by the organising committee.

Last week, Peter Lucey visited the Acorn Drive centre to present a cheque to one of the residents to thank them for their help.

The £150 donation was given to Jean Towner in recognition of their hard work in the build-up to the annual street fayre that took place on Sunday, November 26 across the town centre.

Mr Lucey said: “In particular they wrapped the many, many presents for the Santa’s
Grotto.

“We thank them all for their efforts helping with the very successful 2017 Winter Carnival.”
This year’s Winter Carnival, the first to be able to make use of Peach Place, will take place on Sunday, November 25.
