Beehind the bench: Bees prosper on the road but falter at the Hive

Featured in the paper every Thursday, Bracknell Bees head coach Doug Sheppard gives latest views on the club’s season on and off the ice in an exclusive column.

Many thanks to the fans who travelled up to Peterborough last weekend. How many had set off from Bracknell expecting to watch the Bees win 6 – 2 away from home? They knew the guys had been playing well lately but that performance must have made the journey worthwhile.

It was a game in which all we’ve been talking about in training came together. We worked hard for the full sixty minutes. The defence was tight. The offence executed well. It’s always a pleasure to be part of and to watch a good team performance.
Of course, what I would have liked was our first four-point weekend when we welcomed Sheffield to the Hive on Sunday. Going into the third period the game was tied at 2-2. Then we got a two goal lead. We should have been able to close the game out, but Sheffield forced the game into overtime, and our four points became three!Learning how to hold on to a lead is something we need to do if we want to continue to develop.
This weekend we have the chance to put things right when we go up to Sheffield on Sunday. Before that we have a home game against Raiders who have beaten us by the odd goal earlier in the season. I know how keen the guys are to get back on the ice.
They’ll be joined by our new signing, Caly Robertson. All the young players I have brought into the Club are working hard and improving steadily. I’m sure Caly will be just as successful.
This Saturday is our Teddy Bear Toss. These are much appreciated by the Charity which distributes them for Christmas. Thank you for your support. Don’t forget to wrap the bears warmly.
I look forward to seeing a busy Hive this weekend.
