A LOCAL charity has launched its Socktober campaign to promote physical activity as a means to improve wellbeing.
Sport in Mind is an independent Berkshire mental health charity, who support people with mental health conditions to engage in sport and physical activities to improve their wellbeing.
The charity has launched their own Sport in Mind (SiM) socks, and are running a range of sporting activities at Reading University.
A three-legged race across campus, pickleball and ultimate Frisbee were all in-store; while local businesses were running indoor sport events.
A spokesperson from the charity said: “At Sport In Mind, we pride ourselves on offering fun, sport and physical activity programmes in a supportive environment to promote mental wellbeing”
A former participant from Sport in Mind said that increasing his physical activity helped improve his mental wellbeing, physical health and build the confidence he needed to return to mainstream sport.
“As someone living with mental ill-health this was a first step to feeling less socially isolated and taking control of mind and body. It became an important part of my week and helped me move forward in a positive direction.”
The charity is encouraging people to “pull up their socks and help us unite against the stigma of mental health”
