YESTERDAY the community came together to commemorate the life of a Wokingham man who passed away last month.

After the upcoming funeral was advertised in The Wokingham Paper last week, over 50 people showed up to pay their respects to the late Mr Colin Miller.

Among those in attendance was Town Mayor, Cllr Lynn Forbes, as well as members of REME with a standard-bearer and guard of honour.

The funeral took place at the Bracknell Crematorium.

With no traceable family or a great circle of friends, Andy Jones, volunteer at the Link Visiting Scheme in Wokingham was hopeful that members of the community could commemorate the life of his friend.

Reflecting on the service, he said: “We played Nimrod by Elgar and also the Last Post to represent his 23 years in the Army, both of which were emotional.

“It was an emotional service officiated by Nick Debney the Celebrant and myself.

“I am not ashamed to tell you that I cried. Colin was a lovely man who will be sorely missed.

“The Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Lynn Forbes also attended to show her respects and provided a beautiful wreath. Her attendance was solely down to your previous piece for an appeal for people to rally, so thank you.”

Cllr Lynn Forbes said: “I was very impressed to see so many members from REME attended.

“It was a lovely service and I was proud to represent the people of Wokingham.”

Mr Jones added: “Colin would have been extremely proud of the support and kindness shown to him by all who attended.

“I personally would like to thank everyone who attended, people who knew him and many who didn’t but came along because they read about it in The Wokingham Paper.”
