Cruising – being stuck on a huge ship, playing bingo, overeating at buffets and just boring. I’ve heard it all before and admittedly, I thought the same.

Until I was invited to a Celebrity Cruise ship whilst docked in Southampton. Wow, was I amazed!

This floating city had it all and more. Sure, there is bingo and buffets, but there is also some of the most amazing a-la-carte restaurants, beautiful staterooms, world class shows and entertainment.

Cut to Celebrity Edge, the newest ship in their fleet and recently voted Best New Ship by Cruise Critic. This is a revolutionary new cruise ship redefining modern luxury at sea.

Its rule-breaking design seamlessly blends inside and outside living spaces, connecting you more closely to the ocean and your destination.

Teaming up with world-renowned designer Kelly Hoppen, Celebrity Cruises have taken the Edge accommodation experience to unheard of heights. In the new Infinite Balcony staterooms the touch of a button extends your room right to the water’s edge, making them 20% bigger.

Then there’s the enhanced spa-themed AquaClass sanctuaries, and six split-level Edge Villas boasting panoramic two-storey windows plus a private terrace with plunge pool.

Edge is a game-changer with a plethora of firsts onboard: Visit the Rooftop Garden to catch a movie and food that will excite both palate and imagination, or indulge every sense at Eden, a multi-faceted and innovative experience.

On a Celebrity Cruises holiday, you can expect the ultimate sensory journey. Celebrity Edge has menus designed by Michelin-starred chef, Cornelius Gallagher across four restaurants. And there’s a total of 29 distinctive dining experiences onboard including Le Petit Chef, an interactive dining experience.

This summer, Edge offer a range of sailings out of Rome, Barcelona and Southampton.

It will visit two new ports of call: Nauplion on Greece’s Argolis Peninsula and Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera.

The second of the revolutionary new Edge Class ships, Celebrity Apex, will join the fleet in April 2020 and will be calling Southampton home for her first five sailings.

Celebrity Cruises is currently offering a free Classic Drinks Package for two, $200 onboard spending money plus free gratuities when you book an eligible Ocean View stateroom or above.

Ask Ben

Where is the best place you have been to?
– Lisa S, Wokingham

I’ve been extremely lucky and traveled to so many amazing places but one that always sticks in my mind was a trip to South America where we went to Buenos Aires, Iguassu Falls and Rio for Carnival.

When is the best time of year to visit Australia?
– Harriet W, Sindlesham

This all depends on where you plan to go. If you are looking to spend time mainly in the south like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide then November to March. If you are wanting to go up to the north and visit the Great Barrier Reef then May to August are best. If wanting to go all over, I would probably say around March/April as you will still get the warmth in the south and won’t be excruciatingly hot in the north.
