Paul Clement says Reading must use Saturday’s win over Preston North End as a catalyst for the next block of fixtures.

The Royals finally picked up their first Championship victory of the campaign with a 3-2 success at Deepdale thanks to goals from Sam Baldock, Tiago Ilori and Leandro Bacuna.

Leandro Bacuna bagged a late winner

While Reading still remain in the relegation zone after seven matches, they have now lifted themselves off the bottom of the table ahead of home games against Norwich City (Wednesday) and Hull City (Saturday).

Clement insists there are no problems behind the scenes at Reading

“We haven’t had too many wins for quite a while, so it’s nice to have that winning feeling,” said Royals boss Clement.

“I thought it was really important that in both situations when it went from 1-0 to 1-1 and from 2-1 to 2-2 that we continued to believe we were going to win.

“We had to work hard for it. It was a close game, very fine margins again just like the first six games and fortunately we were able to get those little details right and that saw us over the line.”

He added: “We’ve got to use this as a catalyst to move forward.

“The first six games of the season were close. We could have had more points for sure.

“We didn’t feel sorry for ourselves though. We didn’t sulk, we got on with it , continued to work and we’ve come away to a difficult place and we’ve taken three massive points.

“But we’ve got to use that now. We’ve got home games against Norwich and Hull in the week ahead and it would be nice now to back this win up with two good performances and more good results.”

Clement also confirmed that both Vito Mannone and Tyler Blackett missed the trip through injury while Mo Barrow withdrew late on to return to Reading to attend the birth of his child.
