Perfect conditions for Theale’s Rosser’s Shield

Dugi Tait was victorious in the annual golf tournament

THEALE Golf Club held its Rosser’s Shield contest last week.

Named after its original sponsor Alan Rosser, turned out to be a tightly fought competition this year in much better golfing conditions than of late. The rain earlier in the week had helped growth on the greens giving a fair run of the ball. With greener fairways and the sun shining, it was a perfect day for golf.

The person it suited most of all was Dugi Tait, who romped home with a great 41 points to take the Shield. Closest to him, hoping to match her first win last year in a mixed competition, was Susie Fountaine. However, she had to settle for the runner-up spot with a very commendable 39 points.

To give higher handicap players a chance of a prize, there were two longest drives. The winner of the up to 18 handicap was Glen Brown and for 19 and above, Paul Taylor was the longest. As well as the normal nearest the pin, which was won by Daren Smith, there was a nearest to the pin in two where the prize went to John Brooks.
