READING have made their fifth acquisition of the summer as Argentine winger Lucas Boye joins from Italian side Torino on a season-long loan.

Having played in the Argentine Primera División with River Plate and Serie A since moving to Turin in 2016, Boyé has recently enjoyed loan spells in La Liga with Celta Vigo and the Greek Super League at AEK Athens last season. The 23-year-old will now become a Royal for the 2019-20 season.

“Lucas is a young, talented, attacking player with good technique and excellent ability running at defenders one-to-one,” said manager Jose Gomes.

“I am delighted to welcome him to Reading Football Club, he will be a good addition to our squad this season and I look forward to working with him on the training pitch.”

He spent the 2015-16 season on loan with fellow Primera División side Newell’s Old Boys before moving to Europe to join Torino in 2016.

He scored on debut in Turin, helping his new club secure a 4-1 Coppa Italia win at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, and his Serie A bow came in the San Siro against AC Milan.

Jose Gomes’ side are just one day away from their Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday as the Berkshire club add their third loan signing of the window, accompanied by the permanent deals of Charlie Adam and Michael Morrison.

Boye will wear the number 18 shirt for the 2019/20 season.

Chief Executive Nigel Howe said, “Despite only being 23 years of age, Lucas has experience of top flight football in four different countries and I’m pleased to welcome him to Reading, where I am sure he will successfully tackle the challenge of the Championship in what will be his first taste of English football.”
