GET YOUR beer goggles on: organisers of a real ale event have got 2020 vision.

The date has been set for the annual Twyford Beer Festival, which will once again be held at Stanlake Meadows Recreation Ground.

Back for its 11th year, the fundraising event is in aid of male cancer charity Orchid.

Organisers are hoping they will beat this year’s total of £10,000, through its mixture
of local real ales, ciders and perries, a gin bar, soft drinks, live music and street food stalls.

The event has grown each year, with attendance at this year’s festival being the best ever.

Ian Wisdom, who makes the event happen, is hoping that all residents will save the dates now: there will be an evening session on Friday, June 12, and an all-day session on Saturday, June 13.

He was one of the stall holders at the Wokingham Winter Carnival on Sunday, where he served mulled wines and ciders, and will also be helping out at the Twyford Street Fayre on Friday, December 6.

“This year was our best ever,” he said. “Ten years of Twyford Beer Festival and we doubled our donation to Orchid to £10,000.

“It is a relatively small charity, but has such a big impact from the research papers, new surgical techniques and the largest cancer tissue bank in the UK used by all the other much larger cancer charities.

“Our customers have helped us raise more than £50,000 for the charity and we have not finished yet.

“We want to do more next year, and we hope all everyone saves the date to come and enjoy a great weekend drinking some of the best beers we can find and enjoy some terrific music and plenty of fun.”

The event is run totally by volunteers and, to ensure that as much money goes to charity as possible, even the bands generously give their time for free.

Mr Wisdom is hoping that more people will come forward to help out.

“We do need people to help every year to make the beer festival happen so why not consider? We come from all walks of life and diversity so why not come and make a difference?

“We’re a friendly team and we love being able to make this event so special.”
