Sonning maintain domination at top of the league

Sonning v Wargrave

Thames Valley Cricket League Division 4A: Sonning (123-6) beat Wargrave 2s (122 all out)

SONNING maintained their domination at the top of the division as they cruised to a seven wicket win against Wargrave 2s.

Wargrave 2s batted first but got off to a poor start as Ghulam Abbas took two early wickets. Taran Sohi was bowled having contributed just two runs and Abbas then caught Salman Khalid lbw on two runs.

John Wolff ran out Dan Ormond for seven to put Wargrave’s innings in trouble as the wickets continued to tumble. Sam Warren put some much needed runs on the board for Wargrave as he hit 33 runs before he was caught out.

Wargrave’s innings was put to a stop by Wolff who captured the final three wickets as they finished on 122 after 32 overs.

With a relatively low total to chase, Sonning’s opening pair of Peter Dean and Duncan Parr put their side well on to the road to victory. Parr scored a quick 31 runs from 34 balls before he was bowled out by Tom Walker.

Wolff couldn’t continue from his fine bowling display as he fell for a duck with Wargrave picking up two wickets in quick succession.

Dean was then caught lbw having hit a fine innings of 37 runs from 46 balls, but Sonning were still in a commanding position in the match with seven wickets and plenty of overs to spare if needed.

But that would be the end of Wargrave’s bowling joy as Andrew Niblett (26*) and Aaron Crofts (22*) knocked Sonning to victory after just 22.3 overs.
