Thames Valley Cricket League round-up: Wokingham 2s sail to an easy victory

WOKINGHAM 2s sailed to an easy victory in Division 3A as they claimed their first victory of the new season.

The Oaks put on a dazzling bowling display as they bowled Falkland 2s all out for just 73 as Callum Creighton (4-9) and Anthony Clapham (3-19) starred.

With just a total of 73 to catch, Wokingham surpassed the total to earn victory after just 9.5 overs as George Horsley amassed a large majority of the runs with a half-century

Finchampstead 3s also picked up their first win of the season with a 63-run triumph over Cove 2s.

Finch impressed with the bat with several strong innings, including Ian Rose (64), Richard Reed (47) and Ben Simmons (44no) to set a tricky target of 273 for Cove 2s to chase.

Despite a decent attempt from Cove 2s, they eventually fell 63 runs short of the target as Finchampstead bowled them all out for 210 after 38.5 overs.

Elsewhere in Division 3A, Binfield continued their winning form with a comfortable 90-run victory against Slough 3s.

Lessels top scored for Binfield with the bat, hitting 76 runs as Binfield set Slough a total of 224 to catch. But they were all out after just 26.1 overs, falling short of the chase by some way as Binfield picked up their second consecutive win.

Sonning picked up their second victory of the season in as many games in Division 4A in a game that was slightly disrupted by the weather.

Sonning set Bracknell a huge target of 332 as Aaron Crofts (86), Ghulam Abbas (59 no) and Andrew Niblett (58) each put in fantastic displays at the crease.

A revised D/L target of 285 was set for Bracknell but they were unable to get near after 37 overs with a score of 219.

White Waltham soared to victory in Division 4A as Chris Metherell (110) and Simon Jessup (109) both hit centuries while Ben Scarborough (71) amassed a good total as they set a fantastic total of 316 from 45 overs.

Bagshot 2s were unable to cause many problems for White Waltham as they fell 118 runs short of the target after the allotted overs.

Wargrave 2s earned their second victory of their league campaign after they set a total of 186 for Newbury to chase. A fine bowling performance from Martin Smith (4-13) helped them to record victory as they won by 32 runs.

But Wokingham 3s were condemned to their first defeat of the season as they were beaten narrowly by 18 runs against Reading 2s.

Reading batted first and set Wokingham a chase of 213 after a half century from Rahul Bharti, with the innings seeing a fine bowling display from Wokingham bowler David Carpenter (4-31).

Despite Jake Turner knocking 62 runs for Wokingham, the Oaks fell just short of the target as they were bowled all out with five overs remaining.

In Division 5B, Eversley 2s captured their second win of the season as Mike Judd (71) impressed with the bat before Sam Glaze (4-24) helped them to achieve a 134-run victory against Henley 3s.

Binfield 2s put in a convincing display against Slough 4s as they triumphed in Division 5B. Kamal Gupta was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed four wickets before an astonishing century from Olly Nicholson helped to achieve an eight wicket win.

Elsewhere in the same division, Royal Ascot 2s were pipped by just five runs against Aldershot 2s as they were bowled out after coming agonisingly close to reaching the target of 189.

In Division 6A, White Waltham 2s claimed their second victory in as many games as they beat Chesham 3s by 89 runs. Andrew Parham (70) and Alexander Kahn (70no) both put in brilliant displays for White Waltham at the crease before Jordan Thomas picked up a miraculous five wickets.

Finchampstead 4s lost to Cove 3s by 54 runs in Division 6B while the match between Sonning 2s and Hurst was abandoned.

Wargrave 3s recorded a hard fought victory against Wokingham 4s as they won by two wickets as they surpassed the 202 total set by Wokingham after 41.2 overs to take them to the summit of Division 7A.

In Division 8A, Wokingham 5s and Eversley 3s stay level at the top of the table on 40 points. Wokingham beat Boyne Hill 4s by six wickets while Eversley thrashed Royal Ascot 4s by 139 runs.

Eversley 4s overcame Yateley 2s with a seven wicket victory in Division 9A. Elsewhere in the division, Wargrave 4s defeated Slough 6s by six wickets while Sonning 3s lost to Stoke Green 4s by a huge margin of 203 runs. Wokingham Oaks & Acorns forfeited their match against Datchet 4s.
