Twyford Post Office shuts suddenly: promise to restore as soon as possible

TWYFORD residents have been left feeling lost in the post after a vital community resource suddenly shut.

The Post Office, located in Booze Bargain, has been shut for over a week.

A sign on the door said that it was closed for a routine audit and would be open again in five minutes, but that has not been the case. The Post Office has confirmed that the branch was shut on Wednesday, October 16 and has yet to re-open.

Angry residents have been taking to social media to vent their frustrations not just at the sudden and mysterious closure of the Booze Bargain store but of the limited opening hours for neighbouring Post Offices in Wargrave, Charvil and Hurst.

The sudden closure comes hot on the heels of news that the Post Office intends to close Wokingham town centre’s branch and instead open a kiosk in WH Smith. A consultation will be launched on those plans later this year.

On the Twyford closure, a Post Office spokesperson told The Wokingham Paper: “We sincerely apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Twyford Post Office.

“We understand and appreciate how much communities rely on our services.  We would like to reassure customers that the decision to suspend services at any of our branches is never taken lightly.

“We take very seriously any decision to temporarily close a branch, and will only do so when it is warranted.

“We are working hard to restore services for the community as quickly as possible.”

  1. They can apologise all they like, that’s of absolutely no use whatsoever if you rely on the local post office. I used Twyford’s Post Office frequently and its closure is a huge inconvenience, but if that’s how they want it then I shall start using courier companies to post parcels. No wonder the Post Office is going down the drain, it shuts smaller branches, leaving people confused and inconvenienced without so much as an explanation.
