UPDATE: Lorry driver flown to hospital following M4 crash near Wokingham

THE driver of a lorry which overturned on the M4 near Wokingham this afternoon has been flown to hospital.

The male driver was said to be suffering serious head injuries following the crash, which happened shortly before 1pm.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service told The Wokingham Paper: “Our officers were called at 12.44pm to reports of an HGV having overturned on the M4. The male driver of the lorry was trapped inside.

“We sent an ambulance and rapid response crew, and the air ambulance also attended.

“The man was freed by the emergency services and has been flown to the Major Trauma Centre at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious head injuries.”

The eastbound and westbound carriageways of the motorway, between junctions 10, for Wokingham and Bracknell, and 8/9 for Maidenhead and High Wycombe, were both closed while emergency crews attended thee scene.

Thames Valley Police Roads Policing tweeted at 2.47pm that the westbound carriageway is expected to remain closed for at least 10 hours.

They then tweeted a photo from the scene at 2.37pm.
