Wokingham town centre care home has new owner

A WOKINGHAM-based care home for 16 residents now has a new owner.

Last week, specialist business property adviser Christie & Co announced that it had completed the sale of Down Lodge to Chrome Tree Care, a first-time purchaser, with a strong background in the care sector.

The home, in Sturges Road, comprises 14 single bedrooms and one twin bedroom, with seven of the rooms featuring en-suite facilities.

Graham Casselden, the previous owner of Down Lodge, first purchased the property in 1988 and since then has upgraded and refurbished the property.

He said: “I have very much enjoyed owning and managing Down Lodge for the past 30 years but felt that it was the right time to sell and retire from the sector.

“I am pleased to be handing the business over to Vaida and am confident that she and the business will flourish in the future.

“Christie & Co dealt with the sale process in a professional and efficient manner and I am pleased to have chosen them as my agent.”

New owner and first time buyer, Vaida Elliott, owner of Chrome Tree Care Ltd, is not new to the care sector as she runs a successful homecare agency in Berkshire.

She said: “Having owned and operated our homecare agency in Berkshire for a number of years, we felt that a move into owning a care home was a natural step for the company. We are delighted to have purchased a care home so close to our offices in Slough and look forward to being able to offer our clients excellent levels of care.”

Charles Phillips, director at Christie & Co’s Winchester office handled the sale.

He said: “Due to its location, quality and good proven track record, a good level of interest was expressed in Down Lodge during a confidential marketing campaign.

“It has been a pleasure acting for Graham in the sale of his business and we are confident that with Vaida’s local knowledge and expertise in the care sector, she will do very well with her first care home.

“We wish both parties all the best with their future plans. The sale of Down Lodge and the interest that was expressed demonstrates the strong demand being shown for care homes in the South and similar opportunities are required to satisfy the requirements of our applicants.”
